HEAT TREATED,COLOR TREATED, OXIDIZED AND PATINA PRODUCT CARE:

Caring for your newly custom made product is simple. Here are a few tips to help with the care of your item(s).

Most of the items within shop that are oxidized have been chemically blackened, chemically patinated, or oxidized using a torch or chemicals. Then sealed with a protective coating. Like all oxidized metals that are sealed, they are not meant to be worn in water for extended periods of time or exposed to hard chemical such as shampoos, soaps etc. To do this would essentially be compromising the sealer and washing them clean.  As stated earlier, it is an oxidation (think soot) process.  Not painted or enameled--so it needs to avoid all harsh cleansing processes.

Again, NO EXTENDED WATER CONTACT / NO EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS. (This includes avoiding shampoos, rinses, conditioners, cleaning products while wearing these products.)

Be advised that over an extended period of time, your patina or heat treated item may fade as a natural process. Items that are worn daily may experience this process quicker than others. Copper and brass tend to darken on their overtime anyway which is preferred by some.

If you would like to gently clean an item such as a ring that has oxidation/patina, a suggestion may be to use a cotton ball and a light astringent such as witch hazel and gently wipe the surface. Submerging in any fluids is not recommended.

The above also applies to any products made with glitter.

CLEANING PRODUCTS LEFT UNSEALED:
Some people like the natural color changes and antiquing process of metal over time. If you prefer a brighter, shinier look, you can order an item made of copper or brass that has not been color treated or has been left unsealed.
An option is to make your own pickling solution to restore it's original color. You can do this by using vinegar, salt and sometimes lemon juice together. Simply heat and then dip the metal into warm/heated solution, then remove and wipe down. Polish to shine.
